  1. Introduction
    ▪ Project Description:The goal of LUP is to raise awareness among students about how artificial intelligence can create textual, visual and multimedia content and how to recognize fake news.
    We mainly covered:
•Artificial Intelligence (AI), a set of technologies that enables computers and machines to perform advanced human-like processes, such as analysis, learning, and problem-solving.
•Fake News, false or misleading information presented as true news, often spread through the media and social networks with the sole purpose of deceiving the public, influencing public opinion or generating confusion.
•Deep Fake, audio or video content manipulated by artificial intelligence to make it appear that real people are saying or doing something they never actually did.
    ▪ Objective of the Activity:The aim of the activity we carried out is to raise awareness among students about the risks and dangers to which we and the community can expose ourselves with the incorrect use of artificial intelligence, especially for fake news that can drastically change public opinion and deep fakes that can destroy the reputation of a subject, especially if this tool is used maliciously.
  2. Project Phases
    ▪ Research and Survey:The survey was created by selecting the five best questions developed by each group to then create an effective final survey on the topic with specific questions on what artificial intelligence, fake news and deep fakes are.
All students, from all classes in the school, were invited to fill it out and responses arrived from a good number of classes.
    ▪ Data Analysis:The survey showed that most students are aware of what Artificial
Intelligence, deep fakes and fake news are and what the risks are. Most of them proved to be able to distinguish contents created with artificial intelligence from real ones. However, many say they have shared, even if intentionally, fake news having mistaken them for real news. It is therefore necessary to focus on making people pay more attention before sharing this news, and if necessary, do a search to verify its authenticity.
    ▪ Poster Creation: To develop the poster, the group used the free online tool “Canva” that allowed us to develop the poster simultaneously and to take advantage of features that helped us with the realization such as the unique color palette for the project. The advice we want to give to those who read the poster is to open their eyes to these technologies, which although useful and probably, in a not too distant future, almost indispensable, have another side of the coin that exposes us to various risks. We wanted to include a QR-Code that leads to a site that tests the ability of those who scan it to recognize which of the two images that are proposed to them, was created with the help of Artificial Intelligence.
  3. Poster Contents and Main Messages
    ▪ Essential Themes: The main point of the poster is the danger of Artificial Intelligence and urges readers to open their eyes to distinguish real content from false or artificially generated content.
    ▪ Practical Tips:The suggestions we gave to the students with the poster are:
    ▪ Don’t be manipulated; ▪ Beware of deep fakes; ▪ Don’t abuse AI.
  4. Learning Experience
    ▪ Lessons Learned:The group has learned the importance of virtual privacy, of verifying sources before taking a news as truthful and how important is to protect ourselves from the threats we expose ourselves to by the use of Artificial Intelligence or simply with its existence.
    ▪ Challenges Encountered: The biggest challenge we faced was finding sources on some topics, that we used for personal information to develop the project.
    ▪ Collaboration and Teamwork: Working in a group has allowed us to develop organizational and teamwork skills that allowed us to complete the most demanding tasks as well as the simplest ones. However, we also encountered some difficulties in organization, especially in the first period of the activity, often cause by the personal commitments that did not make our “work hours” coincide.
  5. Conclusions and Final Reflections
    ▪ Project Impact: The project has a notable importance for society, as we are in the historical period in which Artificial Intelligence is evolving significantly in a very short time, not leaving us the time to implement the right prevention, which ranges from the creation of specific laws and regulations to the use of tools to defense of our privacy online. The use of posters is, in our opinion, a fundamental step for the promotion of the project.
    ▪ Future Prospects:A suggestion we feel to share is to organize direct meetings with students, perhaps in auditoriums or conference rooms of various schools, to raise awareness of the problem, thus allowing direct contact with one of the categories most at risk.
